Project: Magazine Article
Objective: Redesign
Dimensions: 15” x 10”
I redesigned this PEOPLE magazine article with a minimalist aesthetic in mind. Most of the articles in PEOPLE are extremely busy and leave almost no white space. I selected the font because it is elegant, regal and modern, just like the royal wives themselves. The royal blue goes nicely with the turquoise and reflects their personalities as well.

Project: Package Redesign & Ad
Objective: Redesign
Dimensions: 15” x 10”
I redesigned the labels on these Propel water bottles. I thought the original labels were too busy and sports-oriented. Elite athletes drink Gatorade, Powerade, regular people drink Propel and I felt that the brand should reflect that.
The subtle texture in the background was added to create depth. The new font logo helped it stand out and become a more engaging design overall.

Project: Movie Poster
Objective: Design a movie poster with only text
Dimensions: 18” x 24”
I used these two fonts because they related to the story and Cap himself. American Typewriter refers to Cap’s original time period, while Frontage looks like it could be used today by the military. The style is reminiscent of Saul Bass.

Project: Glass Alphabet
Objective: Create the alphabet using an item
Dimensions: 13” x 29”
This project helped me to gain acceptance into the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at Concordia. I was told to create the alphabet from an everyday object. I chose to use my eyesglasses after photographing them previously and playing around with light and shadow. I used my iPod flashlight as the light source to create the shadows and shot the photos on my iPhone. Turning the photos black and white in Photoshop made them more dynamic, helped the shadows stand out and transformed the wood grain in the background metallic.

Project: Illustration & Ad
Objective: Illustrator Practice
Dimensions: 15” x 10”
This project was meant to test our abilities in Illustrator by creating a realistic mode of transportation using the gradient mesh tool, opacity masks, blending modes and transparency options. I took the photo that this illustration is based off at a local car dealership. The blue strip comes from Subaru’s logo, it adds depth and draws the eyes from the car to the copy and back again.

Project: Step-by-step
Objective: Photos & Copy
Dimensions: 18” x 25”
I illustrated the step-by-step instructions for how to make k-cup coffee. I started by writing the copy, took photos and then created the illustrations based off those photos. I laid it out in a poster design and added the headline at the top. This could be hung up in an office’s kitchen or a breakroom for everyone to see.

Dimensions: 23” x 22”
This piece was created to show-off part of Covers and Coffee’s business system. It includes the letterhead (top middle), envelope (bottom), punch card/bookmark (left) and menu/bookmark (right). Project: Midwest Christian College Expo
Objective: Magazine Ad
Dimensions: 6” x 6”
This ad was published in a college expo magazine and needed to stand out. The photo itself comes from a Concordia graduation with a blue overlay that I added in Photoshop. This made the image more eye-catching and prospective students can imagine themselves walking across the stage. The decorative font came from Concordia’s branding and helped the ad stand out as well.
